Mark Southern | President
Mark Southern has been the Owner and President of ENCAP, Inc. since 1993 and serves as an ecologist and wetland scientist. Mark has a bachelors of science degree from Northern Illinois University and has worked at Anderson Environmental, NIU’s Natural History Museum and the Illinois Department of Conservation. He has also performed every task at ENCAP from top to bottom and he brings a vast experience in project management, wetland regulation, permitting, natural area restoration, and native landscaping on over 700 projects. His leadership and management has enabled ENCAP to expand their capabilities and services over their 40 year history to what it is today.
Jonathan Koepke | Vice President & General Manager | CPESC, LEED-AP
Jonathan Koepke is the Vice President and General Manager for ENCAP, Inc. and has been with ENCAP, Inc. since 2006. Prior to coming to ENCAP, Jonathan was the Resource Conservationist at the Kane-DuPage Soil & Water Conservation District. While at the KDSWCD for 5 years, he performed erosion control plan review and site inspection for compliance with US Army Corps of Engineers, IEPA, and Municipal erosion and sediment control regulations. Jonathan is a three time graduate of Northern Illinois University where he completed both his Bachelors and Masters degrees and holds a Masters in Business Administration. His areas of expertise and interest include streambank stabilization and restoration techniques, Polyacrylamide use for erosion and sediment control, and revegetative techniques on construction sites. He is also the current President of the Great Lakes Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA).

Melissa Wheeler | Internal Operations Director | Associate ASLA
Melissa Wheeler is the Internal Operations Director of ENCAP, Inc. Melissa has been with ENCAP, Inc. since 2009. Starting as the AutoCad Technician, Melissa has moved throughout the company from Drafting, to Project Management, and Purchasing. Melissa now helps all of the divisions in the company, to ensure that ENCAP, Inc. remains best known for our quality of work and customer service. Melissa completed a Bachelors of Fine and Applied Arts from the College of Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Melissa has been working in the green industry for over a decade and started her journey in the landscape industry working on residential and commercial landscape design.
Brett Suhayda | Estimator
Brett Suhayda is the Estimator for ENCAP, Inc. Brett joined our team in 2012 working outside as a Restoration Technician. Brett has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, from Lawrence University, and a Master’s Degree in Plant and Soil Sciences, from the University of Massachusetts. Brett works with all of the divisions at ENCAP and helps out with running crews, bidding projects, and technical drafting.
Megan Haenitsch | Office Manager
Megan joined the ENCAP team in October of 2018. She previously worked in the construction field as the Office Manager for a concrete ready-mix company in Arizona. Megan brings 10 + years of office, financial, and management experience. At ENCAP, Megan handles all AP and AR functions as well as assisting the other team members when needed.
Susan Rowley | Ecological Consulting Director | PWS, CWS, LEED AP
Susan Rowley is the Consulting Director for ENCAP, Inc. Susan designs naturalized stormwater management plans, native landscaping projects, and assists private and public land development professionals obtain Federal, State, and Local permits relating to wetlands, natural resource management and Stormwater Ordinances. Susan completed a Bachelors of Science from Illinois State University with an emphasis on Environmental Studies. Susan has been an Ecological Consultant with ENCAP, Inc. since 2005. She is currently a Certified Arborist, a LEED Accredited Professional, a Certified Wetland Specialist in Lake and McHenry Counties, a Certified Wetland Review Specialist in Kane County, and a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager.
Kate McMahon | Ecological Consultant
Kate McMahon is an Ecological Consultant for ENCAP, Inc. and joined our team in 2014. Kate has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science with an emphasis on Land Resources from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Kate works with the consulting department assisting with plant monitoring, wetland permitting, and technical drafting.
Robb Van Herik | Ecological Consultant
Robb Van Herik joined ENCAP, Inc. in 2015, working outside as a Stewardship Technician with the Native Ecological Restoration Division before being promoted to Field Technician in 2016. His responsibilities are split between the Ecological Consulting Division and the Maintenance Division. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and Environmental Studies from Northern Illinois University. Prior to completing his degree, Robb volunteered for numerous natural restoration projects and discovered his interest in water quality improvement solutions.
Steven Milano | Field Technician
Steven Milano joined ENCAP, Inc. in 2016, working outside as a Stewardship Technician with the Native Ecological Maintenance Division before being promoted to Field Technician in 2017. His responsibilities include assisting with routine wetland delineations, permitting, and consulting tasks, as well as assisting field crews with native area management. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Georgia Southern University.
Kara Smit | Field Technician
Kara Smit joined ENCAP, Inc. in 2016, working outside as a Stewardship Technician with the Native Ecological Restoration Division before being promoted to Field Technician in 2018. Her responsibilities include assisting with routine wetland delineations, permitting, and consulting tasks, as well as assisting field crews with native area management. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Environmental Studies from Calvin College. During her undergraduate studies, Kara conducted watershed restoration projects with the Plaster Creek Stewards and presented research at the Van Andel Institute and the 2015 Michigan Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters Annual Conference.

Chip DeAngelo | USACE / Federal Superintendent
Chip Deangelo is the USACE / Federal Superintendent for ENCAP, Inc. Chip is a graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science with a Biology emphasis. After graduating in 2000, he worked for the Zahniser Institute in Greenville, IL doing prairie and wetland planting and monitoring. In 2002, Chip came to ENCAP Inc.’s restoration division where he manages planting, installation, management, and controlled burns at our clients’ native areas. Chip has planted hundreds of sites from 1 to 250 acres with various conditions and challenges. Chip has over seen the maintenance on these sites from the establishment period until meeting performance criteria. In addition to successfully planting and maintaining installation projects, he has also successfully taken on many restoration projects that include invasive species removal in sensitive highly diverse ecological systems that harbor threatened and endangered plants and wildlife.
Eddie Clenney | County / Municipal Superintendent
Eddie Clenney started working at ENCAP, Inc. in 2012. Eddie joined our team as a Restoration Foreman. Eddie has completed wild land firefighting training, along with numerous plant identification classes over the past couple of years.
Pat Heald | Restoration Foreman
Pat Heald is a Restoration Foreman and joined ENCAP, Inc. in 2012. Pat came to our team with over 15 years of restoration experience as a volunteer Site Steward for McHenry County Conservation District. Pat works with our clients to come up with restoration plans and oversees the crews performing the work. Pat’s plant identification skills and experience have helped him train his crews to be able to work with tough site conditions.
Jake Hynes | Restoration Foreman
Jake Hynes started working at ENCAP, Inc. in 2014 after obtaining his degree in Natural Resources & Environmental Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a concentration in Fish & Wildlife Management. As a Restoration Foreman, Jake utilizes his plant identification skills and restoration experience to lead restoration crews. Jake holds certifications and licenses for prescribed burning, chainsaw safety, and pesticide application.
Abraham Harris | Junior Project Foreman
Abraham Harris began working at ENCAP, Inc. in 2013 as a Field Technician and has since completed several plant identification courses and currently holds certifications and licenses for prescribed burning and pesticide application.

Samantha DeDina | Maintenance Superintendent | CWS
Samantha DeDina is the Maintenance Superintendent for ENCAP, Inc. and joined the ENCAP team in 2012. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Samantha manages contracts, coordinates site stewardship, and leads field crews to manage our 75+ natural areas maintenance sites. She brings 3 years of experience in environmental consulting, restoration planning and natural areas maintenance. Samantha has also managed numerous mitigation projects from design and permitting, monitoring during establishment, and coordinating long-term site management.
Mark DeDina | Maintenance Superintendent
Mark DeDina is the Maintenance Superintendent and has been with ENCAP since 2007. Mark has a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Environmental Studies, from Ripon College. He has extensive hands on experience with plant and wildlife species of the Midwest and manages planting, installation, management, and controlled burns. Mark is an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Boss and has a special affinity for wildlife and habitat restoration throughout the world.
Adam Sparks | Restoration Foreman
Adam Sparks is a Restoration Foreman and has been with ENCAP, Inc since 2012. Adam has completed the wild land firefighting certification and has an Illinois herbicide license. Adam has had extensive training in native plant identification and natural area management.

Ryan Alltop | Field Operations Director / Corporate Safety Officer | CPESC, CESSWI
Ryan Alltop is the Field Operations Director / Corporate Safety Officer for ENCAP, Inc. Ryan has completed a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Grand Valley State University, Allendale, Michigan. Ryan has been with ENCAP, Inc. since 2007 and has served in a variety of roles in that tenure. Ryan designs storm water pollution prevention plans, coordinates and manages installation projects, performs NPDES inspections, estimates projects, and coordinates the company safety program. He is currently a Certified Professional of Erosion and Sediment Control, Designated Erosion Control Inspector in Lake County, has completed a 140 hour Construction Safety Course, is an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager, holds a Class A CDL and has herbicide applicators licenses in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin in Aquatic and Rights of Way Specializations.
Rafael Hernandez | Restoration Foreman
Rafael Hernandez is a Restoration Foreman and has been with ENCAP, Inc. for over 10 years. Rafa has extensive hands on experience with native plant installation, seeding, erosion control and ecological restoration. During Rafa’s 12 years with our company, he has been on a range of sites that are ecologically sensitive restoration types to large scale new installations.
Simon Haywood | Senior Foreman
Simon Haywood is a Senior Foreman and has been with ENCAP, Inc since 2012. Simon has completed the wild land firefighting certification and has an Illinois herbicide license. Simon has extensive experience in construction, equipment operation, erosion control, and ecological restoration.
