Cupe 3904 Unit 1 Collective Agreement
Starting in 1997, the EU began working with non-student teachers to join CUPE 3902. After two nominations and an extensive process before the Ontario Labor Relations Board, the sessions finally certified their membership in the summer of 2004, almost 90%. Shortly before the certificate was issued, the Union collaborated with contracted teachers at Victoria University and obtained its agreement with two votes against the Union in the summer of 2004. The two units entered into a first contract in 2004-05. The agreement was ratified on April 1, 2005 and the Victoria Agreement was ratified on May 4, 2005. The two treaties have been renegotiated once and are in the process of the next round of negotiations, which begins in the summer of 2009. The first collective agreement (1975-1977) reduced the 444 wage categories to three years. Recruitment procedures have been put in place and an appeal procedure has been established to resolve problems and resolve disputes and disputes between AS and course directors and administration. The introduction of these standards, taking into account the employment of higher education graduates, was a first in Canada. Members of CUPE Local 3904, Unit One and the Board of Governors Negotiation Committee of the University have both ratified the interim agreement for a new collective agreement of the parties. The new agreement expires retroactively to August 16, 2017 and expires for a four-year term, which expires On August 15, 2021.
Both sides welcome a negotiated solution. Details of the count will be announced shortly. There are differences between the three agreements – for example, group 3 members are entitled to the same type of health care as other members, but are not reimbursed in the same way. There are many other differences – pay rates, summer work guarantees, available financing, etc. For more details, see the collective agreements (the links above). The University and CUPE Local 3904, Unit One have reached an interim agreement for a new collective agreement. The provisional agreement is conditional on the ratification of the members of the Union and the University`s Board of Governors. The union will hold a ratification vote in the week of February 26. Ratification by the university`s Board of Governors will follow shortly thereafter.
Although CUPE 3903 is a single union on site, we have three separate collective agreements. Each contains what is called an application clause – it defines the employees who are covered by each agreement. Two basic principles determine how our collective agreements divide us into units: the type of work for which we are bound by contract and our student status (if any) at the time of contract conclusion. A worker is always in one unit at a time, but since it is customary for the type of work and student status to change from year to year, it is possible that someone will change units over time. The effective application clauses of each collective agreement are included, but in general, Ryerson University is required to obtain a collective renewal agreement with CUPE Local 3904, Unit 1, which represents approximately 970 part-time and meeting officers. The desire to unite was successful for the first time at Victoria College. The Victoria TAs have obtained a certificate from the Association of Graduate Assistants (GAA). Since Arts Departments was transferred from college to university in 1974, the Victoria unit has been understaffed. As a result, no collective agreement was concluded and the representation rights were not rescinded. At the same time, the energy centre moved to the main U centre of campus T. Local Two, GAA, was certified in 1975 following a lengthy dispute and a certification vote.
